Are you at your wits end with your child not being able to completely
potty train? Maybe he or she was doing great, and now they just want to
wear a diaper. Maybe the little one just has accidents every now and
then. No matter what is going on with your child, here are tips you can
use to help them potty train.
1. It’s Okay To Stop
If the child is just having a few accidents, every now and then, it is
okay to stop for a while. Try and take your child’s mind off
of potty training for a few weeks. Don’t mention it at all.
If you believe he can potty train right now and are seeing progress,
then don’t stop, you’re efforts will be wasted. If
nothing seems to be working though, stop. Don’t make your
child feel guilty, or yell, that could make it worse. Simply put the
potty back in the bathroom and let him know it is there if he needs to
use it. Once, you stop making him use the potty, he might just try it
out.
2. Potty Popsicles
This a good way to get the child to act for reinforcements, yes, in a
way it’s bribing, but it might work. You can make your own
popsicles by freezing your child’s favorite fruit juice and
only give it to her when she goes potty on the potty. Do not give it at
any time. Reward the child with a potty pop every time she uses the
potty for the first three to six weeks, then only give it to her when
she remembers and requests one. At a certain point, usually after a few
months potty training will seem so normal, she will forget and go about
her business.
3. Put The Child In Charge
Let her be the boss. She gets to tell you when she has to go, and she
can put a little toilet paper, or water into the toilet to wash it
flush. When she misses, she can help you clean up, this way she sees
the importance of doing it right.
4. Incorporate Baby Wipes
Baby wipes are essential in the training process; use them after a
public restroom and to teach the child how to properly wipe.
5. Vacation
A vacation can be a great success or a failure for potty training.
Adjust, sometimes you have more patience on a vacation, other times,
you might just want to give the child a break and relax.
