Some people are adamantly for potty training rewards, while others a re
against it. There is a difference in rewarding, versus spoiling. It is
important that after the child is completely potty trained you
discontinue or transfer for the rewards elsewhere, for example chores.
There are some great incentives for helping your child, especially an
older child for mastering potty training. The following are a few tips.
1. Stickers
The sticker system is an easy and inexpensive trick to getting your
child to use the potty, whether it is the potty chair, or the real
toilet. Simply label a piece of paper with a reward, such as going to
their favorite park, the zoo, a movie, then every time they use the
potty put a sticker on the paper. A certain number of stickers earns
the reward. Do not set unrealistic goals.
2. Candy
Candy or soda is a good reward for actually using the toilet, not just
sitting on it. Some parents will disagree put soda is fine in
moderation and often as the same amount of sugar as fruit juice. As
long as the child is playing and running around, there is no harm in
sugar. You can use tactics such as 1 piece of candy for pee and 2
pieces for poo. It does work.
3. Real Underwear
This is sometimes a very big deal for children. There is a reason why a
lot of children feel they need to make it clear, they are not little
they are a big boy or girl now. Real underwear is like a trophy to
them. Let them pick out the underwear they like. For girs, princesses
and flowers usually catch their attention. For boys, there is something
about super hero underwear that always makes them feel strong.
4. Cheerleading
Praise is always a great incentive. Let them know they’re
doing a great job for staying dry. You can also encourage brothers,
sisters, or cousins to let them know that they’re doing
fantastic, and really are becoming all grown up now.
5. Potty Parties
These are great ideas. You give them to a child after a month of
staying completely dry. You can invite a small group of friends or
relatives, or have a dessert party for just you, the siblings and the
child. You can use hats, a cake, and let them know they’re
doing great!
