Is Buying An Air Purifier Worth It?

As I was down in my basement yesterday digging out my air purifier which had become buried under a bunch of new stuff that was put down there since last winter, I began wondering if this purchase was really worth it… now that I have it running again, yes, I’m glad I have one – the air actually seems cleaner already!

Air purifiers have become extremely popular, especially during the fall and winter months when all the windows in the house remain closed. I put mine away during the spring and summer because my windows are opened and fresh air is circulating throughout the house. Using an air purifier definitely makes indoor air healthier and cleaner, especially in a household with small children and/or pets.

I’m sure many wonder if they are really necessary, weighing the benefits against the price depending on the brand, size, etc… they can be quite expensive. But this is an item that can be used again and again and the result is clean air. Clean air makes it easier to breathe. So, can you really put a price tag on breathing easier and breathing in cleaner air?

There are many types of air purifiers out there, infact I was debating buying a new one, but I think for now, as long as I change the filter when I’m supposed to, all should be fine. If you are looking into buying an air filter and are pricing them, don’t forget to add the cost of the replacement filters into your pricing and decision making because they do eventually have to be replaced. There are air purifiers that don’t require replacing the filter and they use some type of collection grid, however keep in mind that these types probably cost more upfront but you won’t need to be buying filters which may end up saving you some money in the long run.

Some air purifiers work better for some uses than others. If you are planning on buying one because you have pets (like me) or if there’s a smoker in the house, then you’ll want to read about the specific purifier to determine what particles it actually will be removing and cleaning.

So, yes – purchasing an air purifier is worth it. As I am writing this, I am breathing in cleaner air! It’s funny how a frustrating trip down to the basement inspired me to write this post. :) That’s what this blog is all about – randomness!
