Today, March 2nd, is the birthday of Dr. Seuss! And it’s also Read Across America Day – very appropriate. I was a huge Dr. Seuss fan, in fact I still am and have read every book he’s written, as I suspect most of us have! Remember… Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish? Great books!

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March 2, 1904. He was an American writer and cartoonist most widely known for his children’s books written under the pen name Dr. Seuss. He published over 60 children’s books, which were often characterized by imaginative characters and rhyme. Surprisingly, he never had any children of his own and when asked about this, he would reply “You have ‘em; I’ll entertain ‘em.”

Dr. Seuss died on September 24, 1991. In 2002, the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden opened in his birthplace of Springfield, Massachusetts and features sculptures of Geisel and of many of his characters. This is certainly one place I’d like to visit… just added it to my list!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! :)
